Midnight at the Blackbird Café: a book pairing
“For where your roots are, your heart is“
This month’s book pairing is Midnight at the Blackbird Café. Set in Wicklow, Alabama, the story centers around Anna Kate Callow, a young woman who inherits her grandmother’s small town cafe. The problem is, she doesn’t want to run the cafe. Her plan is to spend the summer preparing the cafe for sale in time to get back to Boston for medical school. I think we all know how this one ends, yes? A lovable cast of characters, a pinch of magic, and a few twists and turns carry us along in this moving story of misunderstandings and grief, healing and reconciliation.
Midnight at the Blackbird Café
Smells like: fresh baked pies, fried chicken, honeysuckle,
Tastes like: blackberry sweet tea, Summer Squash Strata, Zucchini bread
Sounds like: a cat purring, your grandpa’s voice, toddler squeals, the small town chatter in the local diner. Lead Me Home by Fm Radio, Hard Way Home by Brandi Carlisle, More Heart, Less Attack by NEEDTOBREATHE.
Feels like: a good hug (you know the kind), vanilla ice cream and warm berry cobbler melting together on your tongue.
Pairs well with: Hart of Dixie, The Printed Letter Bookshop, Of Literature and Lattes
Favorite quotes:
“For where your roots are, your heart is.”
“Seems to me there’s a whole lot of people around here carrying around a heap of pain tied to the past. Might be time to start letting that go and start healing.”

I adore this book-review format! It makes me want to curl up with this book and a fresh-baked pie. :) I'm currently reading "The 10 Habits of Healthy Mothers" and "Daniel Tiger's 5 Minute Stories" (with my toddlers haha)
I am reading a hundred thing, but this was our book club pick just over a year ago; it's fun to see you write about it this way!
