Your words are a gift. Glad you accepted help and grateful to be reminded of our own belovedness.

Glad you caught it early! I know this is a serious piece, but it still made me laugh. "But as much as I hate being a burden, I love attention more so I tell everyone . . ." 🤪

I'm so confused about what the book Yellowface is about. I thought it was about the publishing industry, but then I've heard it's scary. I don't get it, and I'm pretty sure I won't bother reading it.

Me too!! I just started getting skin checks a couple years ago because it was covered by our insurance!

Re: Yellowface, same. I was not expecting it to be as dark as it was.

your writing is lovely and i wish you good health 💛 also, i was reading your essay soberly, so this line caught me off guard and made me snort-laugh: “But as much as I hate being a burden, I love attention more so I tell everyone…” 😆 very relatable hahaha

Great reminder to say yes to help and to get your skin checked! Ack. I really need to do it. So much to love in this email—I'm obsessed with your new dress, I wish I could eat Eggs Benedict with you (how fun that you're making it with a friend!), and I'll be thinking about this for a long time: "We don’t want to inconvenience people, and we may tell ourselves it’s because we love them, but I wonder if it’s because we have a have a hard time believing in our own belovedness."

DO. IT. This is your sign! Listen, if you are ever in Columbus, I will make you Eggs Benedict.

I'm glad you said Yes to accepting help and care from others, that can be so hard to do. Blessings on your continued healing.

And I agree with your assessment of YellowFace. I'm also glad I read it, but it was weird. I do appreciate books that are different and hard to describe!

Thank you, Christine! I’m glad I’m not alone in my assessment. It was amazing to me that someone could write and publish a book that so openly criticizes and pokes fun at the publishing industry, but, yeah, I don’t fully comprehend the hype.

And also also: the dress color is called "guacamole." Amazing.

Last summer I jumped off a fishing pier into the lake (there was a railing; that could have given me a clue*) and mid-air I was like, "that was STUPID I COULD HAVE DIED."

*but also, teenage boys were doing backflips off of it and it looked like fun
